South Alabama defensive back enters transfer portal

South Alabama defensive back Christian Wortham has entered the NCAA transfer portal, AL.com has confirmed.

Originally recruited as a wide receiver, Wortham (6-foot-2, 200 pounds) played in nine games the last two seasons. A three-star recruit in South Alabama’s 2020 signing class, he caught one pass in six games of action in 2022 before being moved to cornerback prior to spring practice.

Wortham has three seasons of eligibility remaining after receiving an extra COVID year for 2020 and then redshirting in 2021. A native of Grenada, Miss., he is the son of former Alabama and NFL linebacker Cornelius Wortham.

Wortham is the first South Alabama player to enter the transfer portal since the end of spring practice. The portal closes for undergraduates on Monday, and will not re-open until December.

Wortham was first listed in the On3 Sports NCAA transfer portal database on Tuesday.
