South Alabama’s Jalen Wayne signs with Buffalo Bills as undrafted free agent

Former South Alabama wide receiver Jalen Wayne has signed with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent, AL.com has confirmed.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissaro first reported the news:

Wayne posted a Bills logo on his Instagram account and later confirmed to AL.com he was signing with the team:

Wayne (6-foot-2, 210 pounds) was a three-year starter for the Jaguars, totaling 152 receptions for 1,979 yards and 14 touchdowns. The former Spanish Fort High School standout was a second-team All-Sun Belt Conference performer in 2022, when he set a school record with nine touchdown receptions.

Along with cornerback Darrell Luter, Wayne was one of two South Alabama players who played in the Reese’s Senior Bowl in Mobile in February and who participated in the NFL Combine in Indianapolis in March. Luter was drafted in the fifth round by the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday.

Wayne has NFL bloodlines, as the cousin of Indianapolis Colts Hall-of-Famer Reggie Wayne. He is looking to join former teammates Kawaan Baker (New Orleans Saints) and Jalen Tolbert (Dallas Cowboys) as ex-South Alabama receivers in the NFL.

Though undrafted free agents often face an uphill battle to make an NFL roster, Wayne need look no further than former South Alabama star Jeremy Reaves for inspiration. Reaves made the Washington Commanders’ roster as a UDFA in 2018, and last season was named first-team All-Pro and to the Pro Bowl all-star game on special teams.
