Will Levis’ NFL draft wait doesn’t last long on Day 2
A day after sitting through the entire first round of the NFL draft in the green room on Thursday, Will Levis didn’t have to wait long on Friday.
Levis was selected with the second pick of Day 2, going to the Tennessee Titans with the No. 33 overall pick. Tennessee traded up to pick Levis, swapping with Arizona to select the former Kentucky quarterback.
Levis was widely projected as a Top 10 or even Top 5 pick, but inexplicably slipped out of the first round after fellow quarterbacks Bryce Young of Alabama, CJ Stroud of Ohio State and Anthony Richardson of Florida. The pained expressions of Levis and his family in the green room at Kansas City’s Union Station became one of the storylines of the first round (Levis chose not to attend the draft on Friday).
But now Levis has a team, and it’s one that drafted a quarterback just a year ago. Malik Willis, the former Auburn and Liberty quarterback, went to Tennessee in the third round last season and started three games while starter Ryan Tannehill was injured.
The 34-year-old Tannehill is entering the final year of his contract, however. He is owed $27 million in 2023, but could cut him after June 1 and avoid paying the bulk of his salary.
