Florida belted with hail; Here’s the best social media has to offer on crazy weather

Florida has a bit of a reputation as the center of some bizarre stories.

Over the last 24 hours, add another to the list. Wednesday’s storms resulted in hail across the state. Yes, in April. Hail was reported from Jacksonville to Palm Beach and from Gainesville and Orlando.

It was the first major hail storm to take place in recent memory, weather officials pointed out to Florida Today.

“It was very unusual,” Kole Fehling, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service reported Thursday.

Earlier this month, Fort Lauderdale got 25 inches of rain is a case of a strong thunderstorm not knowing when to say when. Normally storms fizzle out after 20 minutes or they move on. But the supercell didn’t. It poured for six to eight hours and was continuously fed by the nearby Gulf Stream.
