Louisiana woman kills boyfriend’s 6-year-old; stuffs body in chlorine bucket: sheriff

A Harahan, La., woman has been charged with murder after the body of her boyfriend’s daughter was found inside a 10-gallon bucket left outside the home of the girl’s mother.

According to Jefferson Parish Joseph Lopinto, the grisly discovery was made Wednesday morning outside the home in Harahan — a suburb of New Orleans. Coroner Gerry Cvitanovich said the girl — identified as Bella Fontenelle — was the victim of a homicide and died from “multiple injuries,” but did not elaborate on those injuries, citing the ongoing investigation.

The suspect, Bunnak “Hannah” Landon, 43, was taken into custody at a local hospital, Lopinto said. She being held without bond at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center, charged with first-degree murder and obstruction of justice.

Lopinto said the girl’s father notified Harahan police Wednesday morning after he awoke to find both Landon and Bella were missing. Police came to the home to begin a missing person investigation.

Police then went to the home of Bella’s mother, one street over, where they found a 10-gallon chlorine bucket with a closed lid on the front lawn. Officers opened the bucket and found the girl’s body inside.

Lopinto said investigators were able to locate multiple surveillance videos from the father’s neighborhood which show a woman pulling a wagon with a white bucket inside just after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night. The woman is headed in the direction of the home where the bucket with the girl’s body was found.

While no motive for the killing was offered, NOLA.com reports that Landon had been charged with simple battery for allegedly attacking Bella’s mother at Riverside Country Club in Harahan in June 2021.

Landon, in turn, filed for a temporary restraining order after the incident, but the following month a judge declined a request to make the order permanent.

Bella was a kindergartner at St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic School in River Ridge, La. NOLA.com reported neighbors and friends described her as sweet, friendly girl who could often be seen riding her bike or playing with her 7-year-old sister.

“As our community grieves for this precious little girl taken from us too much too soon,” read a post to the school Facebook page, “we pray for the Fontenelle family, everyone who knew Bella, the SMA community and everyone who was saddened by this terrible news.”
