Final 2023 NFL mock draft projections for Alabama’s 15 draft hopefuls
The NFL draft begins Thursday evening at 7 p.m. CT in Kansas City, with at least two former Alabama stars expected to join the 41 first-round picks of the Nick Saban era.
Bryce Young remains the betting favorite to be chosen No. 1 by the Carolina Panthers, at -1000 on FanDuel sports book. But Young said Wednesday he has yet to be told by the Panthers, who traded up last month with the Chicago Bears, that he is their pick.
If Young is chosen first overall, he will become Alabama’s first No. 1 pick in an NFL draft since Harry Gilmer in 1948.
Texas Tech linebacker Tyree Wilson is the betting favorite to be chosen No. 2 by the Houston Texans at +125 odds on FanDuel, followed by Alabama’s Will Anderson and Kentucky quarterback Will Levis at +300. Anderson is the current favorite to be chosen No. 3, at +200.
But there is some level of doubt about Anderson’s ceiling that has led to speculation he could slip slightly within the top 10, as detailed Wednesday by Sports Illustrated.
Alabama had 13 players invited to the NFL combine, the most in the nation this year and one short of the 14 it had invited in 2018. If all 13 are picked, it would top the 12 draft picks in 2018 as the most in program history.
Beyond Young and Anderson, Alabama has two other potential first-round picks in safety Brian Branch and running back Jahmyr Gibbs. Young, Anderson and Branch are among 17 players who accepted invitations from the NFL to attend the draft in Kansas City.
This year will mark the 15th consecutive draft in which an Alabama player has been chosen in the first round, setting a new NFL record. Alabama last year tied Miami’s record of 14 consecutive drafts set from 1995-2008.
