Mobile residents warned of scammers threatening to arrest people for outstanding warrants

Mobile police are warning residents of scammers who are posing as police and demanding payment for non-existent warrants.

According to the Mobile Police Department, the scammers claim to be with the police department, demand payment for the outstanding warrant and threaten to arrest the victims if they do not meet their demands.

“It is important to note that this is a fraudulent scheme and the Mobile Police Department will never contact individuals via phone, email, or any other means to demand payment for any reason,” the department said in a release.

“Moreover, the department does not issue arrest warrants over the phone.”

Residents receiving one of these calls is advised to hang up; if an email, do not respond. Instead, contact local law enforcement to report the incident.

“We want to ensure the safety of our community,” the release concluded, “and we must work together to protect ourselves from scammers and criminals. Let’s all come together to protect our community from these fraudulent schemes.”
