Man found shot to death in driveway of Bessemer home; suspect in custody

An overnight shooting in Bessemer left one man dead and another in custody.

About 12:10 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to the 700 block of Parker Road on a report of a person shot. They arrived to find an adult male lying in a driveway suffering from multiple gunshots wounds.

Bessemer police Lt. Christian Clemons said Bessemer Fire medics treated the victim, but he was pronounced dead on the scene.

Based on information they obtained from the scene, officers located the suspect in the 800 block of Fourth Ave S.W. where another man was taken into custody.

Clemons said officers also recovered the gun believed to be used in the fatal shooting.

The names of the victim and suspect have not yet been released. No other details surrounding the homicide were immediately available.

The victim is Bessemer’s third homicide in 2023. In all of Jefferson County there have been 51 homicides including the three in Bessemer.
