A man was found dead following a Midfield house fire.

Midfield firefighters and police responded about 9:30 p.m. Thursday to a report of a fire at a two-story house in the 900 block of 15th Street. When first responders arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames.

After the fire was extinguished and the investigation underway, authorities found the victim’s remains. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 8:30 a.m. Friday.

The victim has not been positively identified.

According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s office, the cause and origin of the fire is being investigated by the Alabama State Fire Marshall’s Office and the circumstances surrounding the death are being investigated by the Midfield Police Department.
