Willie Nelson will return to Alabama this fall, bringing the Avett Brothers and other friends along with the Outlaw Music Festival.

The tour will hit The Wharf Amphitheater in Gulf Shores, Orion Amphitheater in Huntsville and Oak Mountain Amphitheatre in Pelham in October.

The Wharf Amphitheater – Oct. 8.

A press release notes the Outlaw Music Festival started in 2016 and became an annual celebration of roots-based music, showcasing rock, country, folk, blues and bluegrass. Past headliners include Alison Krauss, Old Crow Medicine Show, the Tedeschi Trucks Band, Sturgill Simpson, Van Morrison, Brandi Carlile, Sheryl Crow, Phil Lesh and Friends, Robert Plant & The Sensational Shape Shifters, Bonnie Raitt, Counting Crows and more.

Nelson, 89, is a Texas-born legend who helped pioneer the outlaw country genre and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1993. He received the Kennedy Center Honors in 1998. Nelson is also well known for his political activism.

The Avett Brothers are a folk/roots rock band hailing from Mount Pleasant, N.C. Headed by brothers Scott and Seth Avett, the band blends rock, folk, country and other genres into a unique sound adored by fans since the early 2000s. Albums include “A Carolina Jubilee,” “Emotionalism,” “The Carpenter,” “True Sadness” and 2019′s “Closer Than Together.”
