Elite scoring guard joins Alabama basketball after Hofstra transfer
Alabama basketball has landed its second transfer following an exodus of players and coaches. Aaron Estrada, a guard from Woodbury, New Jersey, committed to the Crimson Tide on Saturday afternoon.
Estrada is an elite scoring guard and has made stops at St. Peter’s (N.J.) University, Oregon and Hofstra, where he’s been named a two-time Colonial Athletic Association player of the year. The Pride reached the second round of the NIT tournament and Estrada led the team in scoring (18.5 points per game) and assists (5.0).
He canceled a visit to Flordia State after including Alabama among his finalists. Estrada is a volume-shooter, swishing 70 3-pointers a year ago, and should match well in coach Nate Oats’ offense.
“I think (Nate) Oats is a great coach and they really made me and my family feel comfortable on my visit,” Estrada told On3. “I knew I wanted to go there as soon as they contacted but I was waiting to see if the basketball fit made sense for me and it did. I like the culture they have and their style of play matches mine. Coach Oats does well with player development and getting there (sic) guys to the next level and that’s my ultimate goal.”
