Baseball playoff roundup: Hueytown-Faith Academy suspended, others advance
Hueytown earned a 6-0 win in Game 1 of its AHSAA Class 6A Round 1 double-header against Faith Academy, but Game 2 was suspended after seven innings because of severe weather.
The game was tied 5-all and will resume in the eighth inning at noon on Saturday.
“I’ve been around long enough to know you can’t do anything about the rain so you can’t let it bother you,” said Faith Academy coach Matt Seymour. “Sit over here and relax, keep your minds in the game. Make sure we’re ready to go out and play whenever they resume play.”
A Hueytown win ends the best-of-three series, but a Faith Academy win means Game 3 will be played 45 minutes following the completion of Game 2.
“Well, it’s the state playoff, they better be motivated,” said Hueytown head coach Billy Chandler.
Faith Academy’s Carson Ratliff belted a pair of solo home runs in Game 2, including the game-tying homer in the sixth inning.
Hueytown senior first baseman Sylas Amick hit a 2 run home run to give Hueytown a one run lead before Ratliff tied it in the sixth.
Hueytown senior pitcher John Michael Pickens struck out 14 in the Game 1 shutout and added two RBIs at the plate as did sophomore third baseman Baker Davis and junior Ontario Sealie Jr.
