Florida man arrested for murder, held on $150,000 bond in 8-year-old Baldwin County cold case

A Pensacola man is being held on $150,000 bond at the Baldwin County Jail after being charged in the death of a man nearly eight years ago in Lillian.

Decody Herring was arrested Friday and charged with murder connected to the death of Devon Deshon Kennedy, who was discovered dead in a vehicle in the Lillian community on November 15, 2015.

Herring appeared before Baldwin County District Court Judge William Scully on Friday, and was assessed the same bond amount recommended by prosecutors.

Herring had previously been incarcerated in Escambia County, Florida, on a charge of a felon possessing a firearm.

According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, Kennedy’s case remained open but became cold after an initial investigation resulted in insufficient evidence to support an arrest.

Within the past few months, new information surface and allowed investigators to refocus their efforts. The new information, according to the Sheriff’s Office – in conjunction with the initial physical evidence from the crime scene in 2015, and the totality of the information and evidence development during the initial investigation – led to Herring’s arrest.

Baldwin County authorities say the case remains under investigation, and “with the new focus, we expect more information” to develop.

If anyone has information about the homicide, they are asked to call Lt. Andy Ashton at 251-972-6872.
