Talladega’s race season kicks off Saturday with two races and a concert from country singer Cole Swindell, but fans don’t need to worry about their health at the event with the event’s new partnership with UAB Medicine.

UAB Medicine has been formally named the medical provider for Talladega Superspeedway, providing on-site care centers for both NASCAR competitors and fans at the races.

“We have had a great relationship with UAB Hospital, and it’s only fitting that we grow the partnership as our premier health care provider for our major events,” said Talladega Superspeedway President Brian Crichton in a press release.

“UAB Medicine has a phenomenal track record of providing excellent care and it’s amazing to have them in our own backyard.”

UAB Medicine was recognized in January with three awards in conjunction with Talladega Superspeedway at the NASCAR Safety and Operations Summit, according to the press release. These awards were given to UAB employees, including the Excellence in Track Services award, the 2022 Nursing Director of the Year award, and the 2022 Teamwork Award for the Talladega Superspeedway Infield Care Center staff.

Dr. Bobby Lewis, the vice chair for Clinical Operations for UAB’s Department of Emergency Medicine, said that being named as Talladega’s medical provider is “a testament to the quality of care that UAB Medicine offers and has long been known for.”

He continued, “As one of the largest hospitals in the country and the only American College of Surgeons-verified Level One Trauma Center in Alabama, UAB’s expertise complements the needs of Talladega tremendously, and we are excited to continue to serve the track, drivers and fans in this clinical capacity for many races to come.”

The races on Saturday are the ARCA Menards Series General Tire 200, followed by the NASCAR Xfinity Series Ag-Pro 300. Sunday is the NASCAR Cup Series GEICO 500. Swindell’s concert is free with the purchase of tickets to Sunday’s race.
