A drug raid at a Jasper funeral home turned up more than half a pound of methamphetamine and led to the arrests of three men.

Agents from the Jasper Police Department’s Narcotics Enforcement Team carried out the search warrant at SouthSide Funeral Home. The business is located at 175 Highway 269.

The owner, 46-year-old Kinte Gosha, and two of his relatives were arrested on drug charges.

Gosha and Arthur McCollum, 48, are both charged with drug trafficking. McCollum was arrested in 2019 also on a drug traffic trafficking charge, authorities said.

Odell Swain, 44, is charged with unlawful distribution of a controlled substance. Police said he is currently out on bond for a 2021 unlawful distribution charge.

“These drugs destroy homes, families and communities, and we remain committed to fighting this poison by targeting those who bring it into our city and sell it to our residents,” Police Chief J.C. Poe said.

The chief thanked District Attorney Bill Adair and his staff for their assistance in the case.

“Now, we need assistance from local judges to keep these repeat offenders off the streets,” Poe said, “and facilities to adequately house these inmates so that our state and county jails aren’t faced with releasing inmates due to overcrowding.”
