Suspect shot, wounded by Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies in Birmingham

A suspect was shot early Thursday by Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies.

The shooting happened at 3:18 a.m., said sheriff’s Lt. Joni Money.

Few details are being released, but Money said the suspect was taken into custody on Interstate 59/20 near Arkadelphia Road in Birmingham. Another crime set linked to the incident is at the Pilot on Arkadelphia Road.

The suspect’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

It is the second time a suspect has been shot by a deputy in Birmingham this month.

The State Bureau of Investigation will lead the probe, which is standard procedure.
