David’s Bridal files for bankruptcy: Are stores open? What about my order?

Popular wedding dress retailer David’s Bridal has filed for bankruptcy, the company announced in a release. Along with the filing, the Pennsylvania-based chain announced plans to cut some 9,000 jobs.

The dire financial news has brides scrambling, worried about store closures and canceled orders.

But officials at David’s Bridal maintain the store and its website will remain open during the restructuring process as executives try to arrange a sale of the company. Orders will be fulfilled, the company said.

The bankruptcy filing is the second by the company in the last five years. It last filed for bankruptcy protection in 2018 but reemerged a year later. Now, the Pennsylvania-based company has $257 million in debt, according to court documents.
