Mobile man accused of raping, strangling, breaking woman’s ribs
A Mobile man is accused of raping and strangling a woman in Atmore.
Atmore police say their on-call investigator received a report April 8 of a sexual assault victim who was being treated for injuries at a Mobile hospital.
The victim told the investigator she had been driven to Atmore the evening before by 35-year-old Ronald Coley and, once they arrived in Atmore, Coley became “enraged” and dragged the victim into a wooded area where he physically and sexually assaulted her.
Coley fled the scene on foot, while the victim drove herself to the hospital in Mobile. Examination revealed the woman suffered three broken ribs and severe bruising to the neck, arms, legs and abdomen.
A warrant was issued for Coley’s arrest on charges of 1st-degree rape, 1st-degree sodomy, 2nd degree domestic violence/assault, domestic violence/strangulation, and interfering with a domestic violence emergency call — levied because Coley reportedly threw the victim’s phone into the woods before fleeing the scene.
Atmore investigators, working with officers from the Chickasaw Police Department, located Coley and took him into custody last week.
Coley is in the Escambia County Detention Center. He was already on probation for a prior conviction at the time of his arrest and thus is ineligible to post bond.
