John Travolta filming movie at Mississippi gulf coast casino
Visitors to a Mississippi coast casino this month might get a glimpse of a Hollywood superstar.
“Cash Out,” a new bank heist thriller starring John Travolta is currently filming at Scarlet Pearl Resort in D’Iberville, just north of Biloxi.
The movie is directed by Randall Emmett, whose previous credits include “The Irishman” and “Silence.” Travolta, star of iconic movies including “Grease,” “Pulp Fiction” and “Saturday Night Fever,” is joined by co-stars Lucas Haas (”Inception”) Kristin Davis (”Sex and the City”), Noel Gugliemi (”Training Day”) and hip hop artist Quavo.
Filming began last June in Columbus, Ga., and moved into the Scarlet Pearl this month, with filming set to wrap at the casino Friday. Additional scenes will be shot at other Mississippi coast locations.
“They were scouting several locations, several casinos in south Mississippi, and they fell in love with ours,” Scarlet Pearl CEO LuAnn Pappas told Al.com. “They said it reminded them of the Wynn (Las Vegas), but better.”
Pappas said the cast and crew have been very flexible, keeping to the schedule requested by the casino so as to avoid filming during the resort’s busiest times.
“We’ve made it clear they should film Sunday through Thursday, try to finish as early as possible, not on weekends,” she said. “They’ve been very flexible with us, as we have with them.”
Pappas said while the filming certainly brings greater visibility to the Scarlet Pearl, it’s of greater importance in terms of visibility for the Mississippi coast.
“I think the more feel-good things we can do, that attract people, that put Mississippi on the map, the better for all of us,” Pappas said. “But for Scarlet Pearl, it’s first about the community. That’s one of our core pillars. It’s the reason we said yes to this.”
