It had been more than four months since Alabama had a commitment in the class of 2024. That changed Sunday morning. Rico Scott, a wide receiver from Bishop (Pa.) McDevitt High, announced his verbal pledge to the Crimson Tide on social media.

Scott is a speedster, operating out of the slot and the backfield to score 28 touchdowns over the last two seasons. As a junior, the 6-foot, 185-pound Scott caught 66 passes for 1,184 yards. His film is sprinkled with highlights of quick screens that would allow Scott to wiggle past defenders. With Scott, the Crusaders won their first Class 4A Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association title since 1995.

He chose Alabama a few weeks after releasing a top-six of Georgia, Colorado, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Penn State. Scott, the No. 55 WR in the 247Sports Composite and 11th-best player in Pennsylvania, is visiting his home state PSU in May. He was in Alabama this weekend and under the new NCAA guidelines, Scott can take an official visit to each of his contenders.

Alabama has two other offensive commits in the upcoming cycle: Foley wideout Perry Thompson and California five-star quarterback Julian Sayin. All of its current pledges are rated within the top-55 of their respective positions. The class is now 17th nationally and 6th in the SEC with Scott on board.

Alabama had a similar gap in commitments last year and still finished with the No. 1 team ranking. If history were to repeat itself, expect another summer surge for the Tide with multiple players joining Scott. Currently, Georgia, LSU and South Carolina have as many four-star prospects as total Alabama commits.

In the last two weeks, Alabama’s welcomed a pair of offensive linemen to the class of 2025. First was Georgia’s Mason Short on April 2 and on Thursday, another lineman from Georgia joined Saban and co. as Dontrell Glover released his news.
