A few storms possible in south and west Alabama today
A few strong to severe storms will be possible in south and western parts of Alabama today, according to forecasters.
And a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect near the coast.
The strongest storms could bring damaging wind gusts and heavy rain, according to the National Weather Service.
A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued that includes Mobile and Baldwin counties in south Alabama. It will be in effect until 4 p.m.:
The Storm Prediction Center said wind gusts up to 70 mph will be possible in the watch area, which also includes parts of Louisiana and Mississippi.
Forecasters said a complex of strong to severe storms is expected to spread eastward across the central Gulf Coast through late this afternoon.
There is a Level 2 out of 5 (or slight) risk for severe weather for that part of the state today, which means that scattered severe storms will be possible.
More strong storms could be possible farther north in extreme western Alabama later today.
The SPC has a Level 1 risk for extreme western Alabama through tonight. A Level 1 risk means isolated severe storms will be possible.
