New Buc-ee’s near Smoky Mountains to delay opening

The second Buc-ee’s to open in Tennessee is facing a delay.

After announcing an opening date of June 5 earlier in the week, the Texas-based company said that the first day of business will be a little later. Knoxville television station WATE reported Saturday that a spokesperson for Buc-ee’s said the opening will be later in June but no specific date was provided.

The Tennessee Buc-ee’s will be in Sevierville at a planned shopping development dubbed the “The 407: Gateway to Adventure” off Interstate 40. It will be about 22 miles north of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park entrance near Gatlinburg.

At more than 74,000 square feet, the Sevierville Buc-ee’s will the largest so far. For comparison, the Buc-ee’s that opened in north Alabama last year in Athens is about 53,000 square feet.

A Buc-ee’s under construction in Luling, Texas, outside San Antonio is expected to be 75,000 square feet.

The first Buc-ee’s location in Tennessee is on Interstate 40 in Crossville about 70 miles west of Knoxville. Another Buc-ee’s is also planned on I-24 in Murfreesboro.
