Former Alabama Mr. Basketball Barry Dunning Jr. in NCAA transfer portal, per reports

Arkansas freshman Barry Dunning Jr. is in the NCAA transfer portal, according to media reports and an AL.com source.

The former Alabama Mr. Basketball from McGill-Toolen signed the Razorbacks a year ago over Memphis, Ole Miss and hometown South Alabama among others.

Dunning, a 6-foot-6 guard/forward, appeared in just 16 games for Arkansas this season. He started just one game.

Dunning was a two-time Gatorade Alabama Player of the Year in high school and also was named Mr. Basketball 2022 by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.

Dunning averaged 25.3 points and 12.9 rebounds as a McGill senior and helped the Yellow Jackets to the Class 6A final four. He also averaged 3.3 steals, 2.6 assists and 1.7 blocks. He was AL.com’s Coastal Alabama Player of the Year.

The final three games of his McGill career looked like this:

— 25 points and 25 rebounds in a regional semifinal win over Benjamin Russell

— 27 points and 18 rebounds in the regional final win against rival Spanish Fort

— 25 points, 18 rebounds and 3 steals in a 62-58 loss to Huffman in the state semifinals.
