5-year-old Birmingham boy killed in Bessemer crash

A 5-year-old was killed Thursday in a crash in Bessemer.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said the child died following a crash that happened at 8:15 a.m. at the intersection of 9th Street and 6th Avenue.

Jamarious Roper, 5, of Birmingham, died later at UAB Medical West.

According to Deputy Coroner Phillip Russell, Roper was a passenger in the rear driver’s side seat of a 2014 Nissan Altima.

Police determined Roper’s vehicle was traveling eastbound on 9th Street when it was struck on the drivers side by another vehicle traveling on 6th Avenue.

Bessemer police are investigating.
