South Alabama Spring Roundup: Fairhope baseball runs win streak to 15
Class 7A No. 7 Fairhope defeated Alma Bryant and Foley this week to improve to 22-8 overall and run its current win streak to 15 games.
The Pirates defeated Bryant 8-7. Brooks Brasfield went 3-for-4 with an RBI and also got the save on the mound. Jackson Hatcher picked up the win and went 2-for-3 at the plate. Harrison Sparks, Caden Creel and Jacob Conway all had multi-hit games.

Fairhope opened a three-game area series against Foley on Wednesday with a 16-0 victory. Sparks had three hits, including a homer, and drove in two runs. He scored three times. Hatcher had a home run and a double. Hollon Brock drove in three runs. Creel added two hits. MD Johnson was the winning pitcher, striking out six and allowing two hits over five innings. The two teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. today at Foley.
Saraland’s Goff shines again
Bryson Goff pitched his second consecutive one-hit shutout as Class 6A No. 3 Saraland beat Theodore 10-0 on Wednesday.
Goff struck out 11 in five innings.
Camron Laffitte had three hits, including a triple and a homer, and drove in three. Brooks Womble had two hits and two runs scored. Mike Smith had two hits and two RBIs and Evan Hilliard added a hit and two RBIs. Santae McWilliams had three hits and two runs scored for the Spartans (21-7).
The Spartans also defeated Orange Beach 9-6 earlier in the week. Laffitte pitched 2.1 innings, striking out three in relief, to earn the win. He also had two RBIs. Clint Smith added two RBIs. Mike Smith had two hits, a triple and two runs scored.
Spanish Fort tops Baldwin County
Class 6A No. 10 Spanish Fort scored six unearned runs in the top of the fourth and held on to beat Baldwin County 6-5 in the first game of their Area 2 best-of-three series Wednesday night.
Pierce Dutton’s two-run single broke a 3-3 tie. John Winstead pitched into the seventh inning for Spanish Fort and was the winning pitcher.
Trevor Murphy pitched a complete game for Baldwin County. He also homered and singled, giving him 100 hits for his Tiger career.
Reid Johnson also had an RBI single for Baldwin County.
The teams play again tonight at Spanish Fort. The series winner will be the area champ, while the losing team will be runner-up.
Alma Bryant sweeps Davidson
Alma Bryant outscored Davidson 25-3 to sweep their three-game Class 7A series this week.
The Hurricanes (12-14) won the first game 5-1. Landon Touchstone and Miles Harbison each drove in two runs. Conner English pitched six innings, striking out seven to get the win.
Bryant scored three runs in the first and four in the fourth to win Game 2 11-1. Hayden Phillips, Austin Graham and English all had two RBIs. Kurt Carden pitched 4.2 innings to get the win. Michael Tipton and English finished the game.
The Hurricanes won the finale 9-1 with Graham, Harbison and Phillips driving in two runs each. Bryce Fick homered for Davidson. Sean Miller picked up the win. He pitched five innings, striking out seven. Harbison pitched the final two innings.
Central-Phenix City knocks off rival Auburn
Class 7A No. 3 Central-Phenix City scored two runs each in the second, third and sixth innings to knock off rival Auburn 6-3 in the opener if their three-game series on Wednesday at Auburn.
Games 2 and 3 at Central-Phenix City were rained out Thursday. They were rescheduled for this afternoon.
Jax Yoxtheimer went 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Carson Gilley, Preston Bedford and Cason Page also had two hits.
Cam Norton got the win with 3.2 innings of relief. Hunter Wippert got the final out for the save.
Bayshore rallies late
Class 2A No. 1 Bayshore Christian scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat Class 4A No. 2 Bayside Academy 5-4 on Tuesday.
Nate Crooms doubled in the tying run. The go-ahead run scored on a bases-loaded walk to Cole Dean. Dean also got the win on the mound, pitching a scoreless seventh inning.
Mikael Bryant started and gave up one run on five hits in five innings. He struck out three. Josh Gunther started for Bayside, giving up three hits and no runs in four innings. Carson Joyner suffered the loss, giving up five runs on just two hits.
Streed Crooms led Bayshore at the plate with two hits and two walks.
The Eagles (18-4) have won nine straight and 13 of the last 14. They host St. Paul’s this afternoon.
Norris, Blaylock power UMS-Wright
Logan Norris had three RBIs and Cole Blaylock added two RBIs as UMS-Wright defeated Opp 6-1 this week.
Parker Barraza added two hits.
Sutton Snypes (6-2) picked up the win. He went five innings, allowing three hits and striking out four.
The Bulldogs (18-9) will play at Gulf Shores this afternoon.
SOFTBALL
Hudson leads Alma Bryant
Emma Hudson hit a three-run homer and drove in four as Alma Bryant defeated Theodore 15-7 this week.
Hudson, Gail Wisher, Brooke Tillman, Madelyn Ladnier and Allie Ladnier all homered for the Hurricanes.
Gail Wisher got the win in the circle, pitching all seven innings. She gave up 11 hits and struck out two.
Bryant (19-11-1) plays Friday in the Berry Strong Tournament.
Earlier in the week, Bryant beat Foley 19-4. Anna Acree was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a home run to lead the way. Tillman, Hudson and Karen Wisher also homered.
Allie Ladnier pitched two innings, giving up two hits and one run, to pick up the win. Madelyn Ladnier and Wisher closed the game.
Sarah Grace Jones leads Prattville
Sarah Grace Jones slammed a pair of home runs, drove in six and got the win in the circle as Prattville defeated Jeff Davis 13-0 this week.
Jones gave up one hit and struck out nine in five innings. At the plate, she was 3-for-3 with a two-run homer and a grand slam. Kaylee Robles added a triple and an RBI and Laci Jackson had two RBIs.
Prattville evened its overall record at 17-17. The Lions play again Tuesday at Dothan.
BOYS GOLF
Bayshore freshman records ace
Bayshore Christian freshman Michael Heaton scored a hole-in-one Monday on the par 4 No. 7 hole at Lakewood Golf Club in Fairhope. The hole was playing at 297 yards.
Heaton was competing in a two-day tournament hosted by Daphne and Fairhope High Schools.
Heaton was state champ in boys 1A and 2A in 2022.
GIRLS SOCCER
Brightwell scores 4 more goals
Katie Brightwell scored four more goals as St. James defeated Tuscaloosa Academy 4-1.
Mary Grace Hixon assisted on three of the goals. Sana Shuford assisted on the other.
MA downs Dothan
Montgomery Academy defeated Dothan 3-1.
Caroline Waller, Mary Elizabeth Cole and Hayes Jenkins scored the goals.
Jenkins, Madison Yi and Sophia Cho assisted.
BOYS SOCCER
Trinity knocks off Class 7A Auburn
Jackson Champion scored the only goal of the game on an assist by Kip Brown as Trinity beat Auburn 1-0.
Carter Younger recorded the shutout in the goal.
Trinity (16-4-1) travels to Dale County for another area matchup tonight.
Palmore leads Panthers
Cohen Palmore scored four goals and had an assist as Prattville Christian defeated Holy Spirit 7-3.
Cade Segars added two goals and had four assists. Brady Roberson also scored a goal.
Carson Roberson and Liam Taylor each had an assist.
BOYS TENNIS
MA celebrates Senior Day
Montgomery Academy swept past Smiths Station 9-0 on Senior Day.
The Eagles honored Picasso Avezzano, Carlyle Chandler, Whit Davis and Charlie Hill. The seniors have been part of a 4A-5A and a 6A State Championship team and have won numerous individual titles.
During the match, Whit Davis won in singles, Carlyle Chandler and Picasso Avezzano teamed up for a doubles win. Charlie Hill won in singles and then teamed with Ron Sharma to notch a doubles win.
John Alford, Jackson Brown, Ford Morano and Edwin Wu won singles matches for the Eagles while John Alford and Jackson Brown teamed up for a doubles win. The Eagles will be competing in the 7A Section 2 Tournament next Tuesday and Wednesday at O’Connor Tennis Center.
The Eagles also beat Dothan 9-0 earlier in the week.
TRACK AND FIELD
Eagles host final home meet
Montgomery Academy hosted their final home meet of the season Monday with 20 teams in attendance.
Brew Tech won the women’s bracket with 82 points. MA finished second (78.50) followed by Chilton County, Prattville and Montgomery Catholic.
Park Crossing won the boys meet (82 points) followed by MA, Elmore County, Chilton County and Trinity.
