Birmingham’s District 2 scheduled for over two dozen resurfacing projects in 2023
District 2, Birmingham’s eastern and southeastern district, has over two dozen resurfacing projects scheduled for completion this year.
As the Lede previously reported the City of Birmingham allocated $15 million for street resurfacing in its 2023 budget.
According to James Fowler, director of the Birmingham Department of Transportation (BDOT), the roads that will be resurfaced this year were chosen in 2017 as part of a five-year resurfacing plan that previous Birmingham Mayor William Bell set in place right before current mayor Randall Woodfin took office later that year.
Fowler added that BDOT goes out to these selected areas to reassess their resurfacing needs before they begin roadwork.
As this plan wraps up, Fowler said BDOT is working to launch a newer half million-dollar pavement management plan that was announced in this year’s budget.
