Birmingham trio charged in Panama City Beach home invasion robbery

Three people from Birmingham are under arrest in connection to a home invasion robbery Saturday morning in Panama City Beach.

According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, Viridiana Magdalena Zambrano about 10 a.m. arrived from Birmingham at a residence on Moylan Road. She was a friend of a woman who lived there.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Ruth Corley said the 22-year-old Zambrano convinced the woman to come with her, leaving the woman’s children – a teen and two juveniles under the age of 12 – alone in the home.

About 15 minutes later, two men armed with rifles entered the home through a back door and made the children lay on the floor while they searched the residence for valuables.

The teenager managed to discreetly call her mother and tell her what was happening. Her mother called 911 and headed back home, Corley said.

Deputies arrived at about the same time and surprised the two gunmen, who fled out the back door.

One of the men was taken into custody nearby. The second managed to get away but was also later captured.

The male suspects have been identified as Javier Lopez-Ramirez, 23, and Pedro F. Lopez, 29.

Investigators believe Zambrano went to Panama City Beach with the two gunmen.

She intentionally convinced her friend to leave the children alone and come with her, and secretly unlocked the back door to the home while pretending she went to the bathroom, Corley said.

Zambrano is charged with principle to home invasion. Lopez and Lopez-Ramirez are being charged with home invasion robbery.

The investigation is ongoing, and more charges are expected.
