Birmingham’s District 1 to undergo more than 30 road resurfacing projects this year

In its 2023 budget the City of Birmingham allocated $15 million for street resurfacing. The city also announced the launch of a half million-dollar pavement management plan.

According to the budget text this plan will evaluate over 750 miles of road this year and use this data to inform decisions for future preventative and rehabilitative maintenance.

“The budget before you will continue to support our priority of neighborhood revitalization,” reads the budget text.

“As a city, we have taken major steps over the last four years to remove dilapidated houses, pave streets, and cut overground lots.

“We will fund demolition and weed abatement to continue an aggressive approach to rid our neighborhoods of this blight.”
