2 teens arrested after carjacking leads to Mobile police chase
Two teenagers led Mobile police on a chase in the area of University Boulevard Thursday morning, less than 12 hours after they carjacked a vehicle at gunpoint at a grocery store, according to the Mobile Police Department.
Just before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers were dispatched to the Fulton Grocery Store on Dauphin Island Parkway on a report of a carjacking. The victim told police two male suspects had approached the vehicle, one carrying a firearm.
The suspects demanded the victim’s keys and other undisclosed property before fleeing the scene in the victim’s vehicle.
About 9:10 Thursday morning, officers in the area of University Boulevard near Ziegler Boulevard spotted the stolen vehicle, with two subjects inside. The suspects fled the scene, leading police on a chase which ended on Prentice Drive, where the two suspects bailed out of the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.
They were quickly apprehended and taken into custody. The two suspects are ages 15 and 16, with the 15-year-old taken to Strickland Youth Center, while the 16-year-old was transported to Mobile Metro Jail. It was unclear why the 16-year-old was not also taken to the youth center. Police spokesperson Ryan Blakely said it would “be up for the judicial system to decide” whether either or both suspects would be charged as adults.
