Calhoun County man, 67, shoots son, suffers injury in domestic dispute, sheriff says
A 67-year-old Calhoun County man shot his adult son during a Tuesday-night dispute between the two, authorities said Wednesday.
Sheriff’s deputies received a report about 8:30 p.m. of a domestic disturbance between the father and son about 8:30 p.m. The location was at a residence on Kindle Way in Ohatchee.
There were reports, said Sheriff Matthew Wade, of a person shot.
Ohatchee police officers were the first to arrive. An officer found 30-year-old Zachary Morrison in the front yard with a gunshot wound to his chest.
His father, Morris Morrison, was on front porch with an injury to his hip.
The sheriff said authorities found a gun from the elder Morrison.
Zachary Morrison, the son, was airlifted to UAB Hospital for his injuries. Morris Morrison was transported by ambulance to Regional Medical Center.
Wade said investigators believe – based on witnesses and video evidence – that Zachary Morrison was attacking his father. During the attack, he said, the father discharged a firearm striking his son.
Both men remain hospitalized, and no charges have been filed.
The sheriff said the investigation is ongoing.
