Oxford road rage shooting leaves 1 driver dead, another jailed, police say
A road-rage shooting midday Monday in Oxford left one man dead, police said.
Chief Bill Partridge said the deadly shooting happened at 12:04 p.m. on Alabama 21 at Recreation Drive.
Two motorists, he said, got into a road rage situation as they were driving. When they came to a stop, the driver of the rear vehicle exited and confronted the driver in front of him.
The front driver then pulled a handgun and shot the other man in the chest.
The victim, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead on the scene.
The other driver is in custody and undergoing questioning.
The shooting happened in a busy area during the lunch hour.
“It’s something that should have never happened,’’ Partridge said.
“It was during lunch traffic, which is extremely busy,’’ the chief said. “You never know here bullets will go in a crowd like that.”
