Vestavia Hills man, 32, drowns while boating on Lake Logan Martin

A Vestavia Hills man drowned Saturday in Lake Logan Martin.

Alabama State Troopers identified the drowning victim as Alvin D. Nash Jr. He was 32.

Trooper Sgt. Jeremy Burkett said authorities responded to the scene about 12:45 p.m., which was north of Stemley Bridge in the Mays Bend area of the lake.

Nash, authorities said, jumped from a boat into the water and did not resurface.

A search was immediately launched. Nash’s body was recovered just after 7:30 p.m. near where he initially entered the water.

The search and recovery operations were a joint effort that include the Pell City Police Department, Pell City Fire Department, St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, Randolph County Rescue, Childersburg Rescue, Pell City Dive Team, Leeds Fire Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Dive Team, and troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Marine Patrol Division.

The investigation is ongoing.
