Birmingham Water Works approves just under $5 million in pipeline replacement projects

At their most recent meeting the Birmingham Water Works Board (BWWB) approved six separate contracts at a total cost of just under $5 million as part of their pipeline replacement program.

According to BWWB spokesman Rick Jackson these projects will cause traffic disruptions starting this summer and lasting through late fall.

In mid-May Jasper-based piping company Tren-Tay, Inc, under contract by BWWB, are scheduled to begin replacing over 6,000 feet of steel pipe along Glen Park Drive, Highland Drive, Highland Circle, Glen Ridge Drive, Roberson Road and Glenwood Drive in Fairfield for an estimated cost of $1,873,502.

Jackson said construction should take roughly six months to complete and added that the City of Fairfield has approved a barricade permit for parts of Glen Park Drive.

Tren-Tay, Inc will also be replacing over 5,000 feet of steel pipe along Fourth Avenue North, Fifth Street North, Sixth Street North, Sixth Place North, Fourth Court North, Morris Avenue North, Center Street North, First Street North, First Place North and Second Street North in Birmingham starting in mid-May for an estimated cost of $1,917,572.
