Huntsville man sentenced to more than 8 years in prison over child porn

A Huntsville man was sentenced this week to more than eight years in federal prison for possession of child pornography.

U.S. Attorney Prim Escalona and U.S. ICE Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent-in-Charge Katrina W. Berger announced that Gregory Wade Hughes, 33, received 101 months in prison, followed by a lifetime of supervised release. Hughes pleaded guilty in January to one count of child pornography possession.

U.S. District Judge Liles Burke ordered Hughes to pay $10,000 in restitution to the victims. He will also have to register as a sex offender.

According to court documents, Homeland Security Investigations received 17 cybertips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children concerning an Internet protocol address at Hughes’ residence that had uploaded child sexual abuse materials.

On July 12, 2018, a search warrant was executed on the residence and several electronic devices were seized. Forensic examination revealed child sexual abuse material on two of Hughes’ devices, according to investigators. Hughes admitted in an interview that he had searched for pornographic videos and images involving children under the age of 13.

ICE Homeland Security Investigations, along with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorneys R. Leann White and John M. Hundscheid prosecuted the case.
