Woman rescued from Birmingham fire says, ‘God is good’; GoFundMe launched for house repairs
A woman critically injured in a Birmingham house fire is recovering, and a GoFundMe has been launched to help rebuild her home.
Sonya Jones, who will turn 43, on Thursday, was rescued from her Ensley home in Monday’s early-morning hours.
Firefighters responding to the blaze in the 1000 block of 45th Street. They found a fire in the kitchen, which they quickly extinguished.
The crews found Jones the rear window. Jones said she was unresponsive and had cuts to her arms and hands from where she had broken the glass in an attempt to get out of the home.
Firefighters rushed her to UAB Hospital. She is now doing well.
“God is good,’’ Jones said in a Facebook video. “I fought my way up out there.”
Her daughter has started the GoFundMe to help repair her home. Donations can be made here.
