Authorities are looking for family members who died in recent weeks in Jefferson County.

No foul play is suspected in either death, but their bodies are ready to be released for burial and the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has not been able to locate relatives to notify them.

Douglas Joseph Pendleton, 73, died March 14. He was found unresponsive his Gardendale home on Misty Pines Way by police performing a welfare check at the request of a concerned neighbor and friend.

He was pronounced dead on the scene. Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Pendleton died of natural causes.

All attempts to identify and locate his family have failed. He may have relatives living in California, but authorities do not know their names.

Yates said the cause of his death is pending.

Bell in 2020 lived in the 400 block of Ninth Street South in Bessemer.
