5-year-old boy shot to death while sitting in parked vehicle in Selma

A 5-year-old boy was fatally shot while sitting in a parked vehicle in Selma over the weekend.

The shooting happened at 12:24 p.m. Saturday on Dallas Avenue at Valley Creek Apartments. Selma police were dispatched to the complex on a report of gunfire.

When they arrived, they found the boy had been in a parked vehicle when the gunfire erupted. He was taken to Vaughan Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities are not releasing his name because of his age.

One other person was injured in the shooting, but additional details have not been released.

No arrests have been announced. Central Alabama Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the identification and arrest of a suspect.
