An Alabama man is behind bars after an elderly woman was found crawling inside a Dothan home wearing nothing but an adult diaper.

On Friday, Dothan police responded to a report of possible elder abuse and neglect at a home in the 500 block of South Saint Andrews Street. The report was called in by the Houston County Department of Human Resources.

When officers arrived, the woman crawling around inside the residence wearing nothing but an adult diaper and asking for help.

Police said she had open wounds and multiple other medical conditions that had gone untreated. She was taken to the hospital where she was admitted and may have to undergo surgery for those open wounds.

“It was awful,’’ said Lt. Ronald Hall.

A 37-year-old adult relative, Jason Proctor, is charged with first-degree elder abuse and neglect. He is being held without bond in the Houston County Jail.
