Who killed Kenneth Earl Harris Jr.? Birmingham police seek tips, share vehicle description

Birmingham police appealed for tips on Friday in the fatal shooting earlier this week of a 42-year-old man on the city’s west side as they shared a description of the suspect’s vehicle.

Detectives believe the gunman who killed Kenneth Earl Harris, Jr. was driving a white, four-door sedan when Harris was shot 9:50 p.m. Monday in the 500 block of Buffalo Street, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald on Friday.

Harris was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:54 a.m Tuesday.

The preliminary investigation suggested Harris was struck by gunfire after shots were fired into the residence, Fitzgerald said at the time.

The vehicle information was shared as police asked anyone with information on the deadly shooting to contact Birmingham police’s Homicide Division at 205-254-1764. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.

Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers through the Birmingham Police Department’s mobile app. If the tip to Crime Stoppers leads to an arrest, Crime Stoppers will provide a cash reward.

Harris was one of three people fatally shot on Monday in Birmingham. Two other men were killed in separate shootings, one on the eastside and the other on First Avenue North.
