Tiffiney Crawford’s husband Jason proclaims innocence in wife’s 2017 Cullman death on ‘48 Hours’

The first interview with an Alabama man convicted in the 2017 shooting death of his wife will air this weekend on CBS’s “48 Hours.

Tiffiney Crawford, 32, was found dead in the driver’s seat of her van on May 2, 2017, at the couple’s Cullman home in what was initially thought to be a suicide, even though she had been shot twice in the head.

She was a mother, stepmother, preschool teacher and the founder of a popular community support group called Mothers Helping Mothers.

Her husband, Jason Crawford, was indicted a year later following an investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s SBI.

ALEA was brought in to investigate Tiffiney Crawford’s death because Jason Crawford’s mother works for the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office.

Four months ago – on Nov. 18, 2022 – a Cullman County jury convicted Jason Crawford of murder. On March 10, 2023, he was sentenced to 99 years in prison.

The “48 Hours” episode, set to run Saturday night, includes Jason Crawford’s 911 call, body camera footage of when deputies arrived at the couple’s home and interviews with Tiffiney Crawford’s best and friend and her mother, as well as investigators and attorneys.

The body cam footage shows Jason Crawford tell deputies, “We were arguing. The last thing I remember I was going in the house, and I heard a shot, a scream and then another shot.”

A deputy in a telephone call with a supervisor is heard saying, “It looks like a suicide to me.”

When deputies arrived at the home that night, Tiffiney Crawford was unresponsive in the driver’s seat of her van. A gun was in her left hand, even though she was right-handed.

In the “48 Hours” interview, Jason Crawford says, “The realization started hitting me that she shot herself.”

Jason Crawford was held at the Morgan County Jail until his transfer to Kilby Correctional Facility in recent weeks.

He still maintains his innocence.

“My family and friends … they never questioned that I wouldn’t kill my wife,” Crawford say in the “48 Hours” interview.

“The Mysterious Death of Tiffiney Crawford” will broadcast Saturday, March 25, at 9 p.m. Central Time and streaming on Paramount+.

Jason Dewayne Crawford was sentenced Friday, March 10, 2023, to 99 years by Judge Martha Williams after he was convicted of first-degree murder in connection to the death of his wife, Tiffiney Joy Crawford in 2017.

The victim was shot twice in the head on the night of May 2, 2017. The defendant was indicted over a year later after the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation took over the case the day following the murder.
