Nick Saban shows support for Alabama basketball, Nate Oats ahead of NCAA Sweet 16, visits with team
There was no mistaking the message Alabama football coach Nick Saban had for Nate Oats and the Crimson Tide basketball team Wednesday.
Saban stopped by to wish the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA tournament the best of luck before heading to Louisville for its game with No. 5 seed San Diego State.
The official Twitter account for the Alabama basketball team released photos.
While Saban’s message was not made public, it is clear from the pictures he was wishing the Crimson Tide good luck.
Interpreting Nick Saban has become a national pastime this week after he announced the suspension of Tony Mitchell from the football team. During his press conference, he said “there is no such thing as wrong place, wrong time.”
Many speculated the comment was somehow a shot at Oats or the basketball team after the basketball coach used similar phrasing earlier this season when talking about Brandon Miller.
Oats said last month said that Miller was “not in any trouble” after prosecutors revealed details of his contact with teammate Darius Miles the night of Jamea Harris’ killing in Tuscaloosa.
He said at the time he knew Miller brought Miles the gun that Michael Davis allegedly used to murder Harris.
“Can’t control everything anybody does outside of practice,” Oats said last month. “Nobody knew that was going to happen. College kids are out, Brandon hasn’t been in any type of trouble nor is he in any type of trouble in this case. Wrong spot at the wrong time.”
