Sports video team at AL.com receives honors from APSE

For some, if not all Alabama football fans, the day Oct. 15, 2022 is a day they’d like to forget.

You know, the day Tennessee snapped a 15-year losing streak to the Crimson Tide on a game-winning field goal as time expired to win a 52-49 instant classic. However, that wobbly game winning kick and the cigar smoke-filled aftermath of Neyland Stadium has now become award winning for the sports video team at AL.com.

On Feb. 21, the Associated Press Sports Editors (APSE) awarded AL.com with an excellence in video for footage capturing the postgame celebration on the field at Neyland Stadium.

Titled “16 moments you may have missed when Tennessee fans celebrated their 1st win over Alabama in 16 years,” the video takes a closer look at the chaotic moments that followed after the ball went through the uprights and fans stormed the field. An Alabama player chasing after a Tennessee fan? Volunteer fans fighting each other? Security trying (and failing) to keep fans off the goalposts? All that and more is captured in the two-minute, 22-second piece.

The team, led by managing producer Wesley Sinor, joined The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Newsday and The Seattle Times in receiving the excellence in video honors by the APSE.
