48-year-old identified as man found shot dead on Birmingham street

Authorities have released the name of a man found slain on a west Birmingham street.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Michael Kimbrough. He was 48 and lived in the Bessemer area.

West Precinct officers were dispatched at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday to the 5900 block of Jesse Owens Avenue, which intersects with Sugar Ray Drive.

When they arrived, they found Kimbrough unresponsive in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at 1 p.m.

Investigators marked several shell casings near Kimbrough’s body.

Authorities have not identified a suspect or a possible motive.

Kimbrough is one of five men slain in the city in just over 48 hours.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said the neighborhood is highly populated and detectives need to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything.
