Alabama counties where the most people work from home
Working from home use to be a rarity. Now, three years after the COVID pandemic first began, working from home has become common.
Statistics from Zippia.com show as of 2022, 26% of U.S. employees work remotely and 40% of those believe they’ve been more productive working at home as opposed to an office. By 2025, there are expected to be some 36.2 million American employees working remotely.
Geography plays a role in where people are more likely to work from home, as Stacker found in a recent analysis of the places in Alabama where the greatest number of people work from home.
The analysis used Census Bureau data from Click Up in determining the work-from-home hot spots in each state. In Alabama those were:

- Total number of workers within county (age 16+): 45,396
7. Marshall County
- People working from home within county: 7.5% of workers
- Total number of workers within county (age 16+): 40,929
6. Tuscaloosa County
- People working from home within county: 7.5% of workers
- Total number of workers within county (age 16+): 103,880
5. Montgomery County
- People working from home within county: 7.7% of workers
- Total number of workers within county (age 16+): 98,093
4. Mobile County
- People working from home within county: 7.9% of workers
- Total number of workers within county (age 16+): 173,818
3. Jefferson County
- People working from home within county: 13.3% of workers
- Total number of workers within county (age 16+): 300,339
2. Shelby County
- People working from home within county: 17.8% of workers
- Total number of workers within county (age 16+): 116,235
1. Madison County
