Birmingham firefighter charged after shots fired into a vehicle during Homewood road rage incident
A Birmingham firefighter is facing a felony charge after authorities say he shot into a vehicle during a road-rage encounter in Homewood.
Timothy Jamal Gooden, 25, is charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail Thursday and released the same day after posting$30,000 bond.
Homewood police Sgt. John Carr said the shooting happened Tuesday, March 14, on Green Springs Highway.
It was just before 9:30 p.m. when the victim left the Aldi parking lot. Police said the victim either cut off or drove around a vehicle that was sitting at the entrance.
That’s when the suspect, Carr said, fired two rounds at the victim’s vehicle. No one was injured.
An officer was in the area and heard the shots. The victim flagged the officer down and gave police a vehicle description.
Police located the suspect traveling southbound on Green Springs Highway and stopped the vehicle at Lakeshore Parkway.
A gun was recovered from Gooden’s vehicle. The victim identified Gooden as the person who fired the shots, police said.
The warrants against Gooden were issued on March 16.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service officials said the investigation is ongoing.
