Man found shot to death on east Birmingham street

An investigation is underway after a man was found fatally shot on an east Birmingham street.

East Precinct officers were dispatched at 12:30 a.m. Monday to a report of a person down, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.

When police arrived, they found the adult male unresponsive. He had been shot and was pronounced dead on the scene at 12:40 a.m. by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service.

Fitzgerald said details are limited. No arrests have been made.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has not yet identified the victim.

The man is Birmingham’s 18th homicide so far this year. Of those, one has been ruled justifiable and therefore is not deemed criminal.

In all of Jefferson County, there have been 22 homicides, including the 18 in Birmingham.
