Forecasters watching Friday for possible severe weather

The National Weather Service is keeping tabs on the potential for severe weather in Alabama on Friday.

Tornadoes, damaging winds and hail all are on the table at this point, though the forecast will be refined in the coming days.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has added a risk for severe weather for parts of west, north and central Alabama for Friday.

Areas in the risk area at this point are Huntsville, Birmingham, Muscle Shoals, Tuscaloosa, Florence, Gadsden and Talladega, among others.

As of now the timing for storms looks to be Friday afternoon into the evening hours, according to the weather service.

Even though the week will start out chilly (with freeze warnings in effect tonight and possibly Monday night) by Thursday highs will be mostly in the 80s statewide. A cold front is expected to approach on Friday, and it will bring the potential for storms along with it.

The weather service said that the finer details are still to be determined, so be on the lookout for updates this week.
