Frost advisory in effect tonight for much of Alabama

Tonight won’t be as cold as last night, but it will be chilly enough to prompt frost advisories for part of Alabama.

And a few counties in the northeast will have yet another night under a freeze warning as well. Temperatures in that part of the state will be at or below freezing overnight, according to the National Weather Service.

The rest of the state is expected to have lows in the mid- to upper 30s, with 40s expected along the coast.

Here is a low at how low it could go overnight (Wednesday night into Thursday morning):

Low temperatures will again be below freezing in the northeast part of Alabama.

Here is a look at the freeze and frost advisories that will be in effect overnight:

* Freeze warning: In north Alabama, for Jackson and DeKalb counties from 4 a.m. until 8 a.m. Thursday.

For central Alabama the counties under a freeze warning are Etowah, Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, St. Clair, Talladega, Clay and Randolph. That warning will be in effect from 1 a.m. until 8 a.m. Thursday.

* Frost advisories: A frost advisory will be in effect for the north Alabama counties of Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, Marshall and Cullman from 1 a.m. until 8 a.m. Thursday.

For central Alabama a frost advisory will be in effect from 1 a.m. until 8 a.m. Thursday for Marion, Lamar, Fayette, Winston, Walker, Blount, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, Shelby, Sumter, Greene, Hale, Perry, Bibb, Chilton, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Chambers, Marengo, Dallas, Autauga, Lowndes, Elmore, Montgomery, Macon, Bullock, Lee, Russell, Pike and Barbour counties.

There are even frost advisories for south Alabama. One will be in effect from 2 a.m. until 8 a.m. for Dale, Henry and Houston counties.

A slight warmup is expected after Thursday morning, and highs during the day will be in the 60s and 70s statewide.

But a cold front is expected to sweep through on Friday. It could bring severe storms to south Alabama and rain to the rest of the state. Temperatures are expected to dip again after the front passes, and Alabama may not be done with freezing temperatures just yet.
