Josh Jacobs had NFL’s best run from scrimmage in 2022

The best run from scrimmage by an NFL player during the 2022 season was turned in by former Alabama running back Josh Jacobs when he burst up the middle for an 86-yard touchdown that lifted the Las Vegas Raiders to a 40-34 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Nov. 27.

That’s according to the NFL, which released a lookback at the 2022 season through the top 100 plays.

Jacobs’ run came in at No. 5 overall and was among the 22 on the list in which a player from an Alabama high school or college had a primary role.

Eighteen players with Alabama football roots appear in the top 100, with the Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Hurts and the Miami Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa, a pair of former Alabama quarterbacks, showing up four times apiece.

The plays involving alumni of Alabama high schools and colleges and where they placed in the top 100 include:

No. 5: An 86-yard run for a touchdown by Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs (Alabama) in overtime in a 40-34 victory against the Seattle Seahawks on Nov. 27.

No. 9: An 84-yard punt return for a touchdown by New England Patriots cornerback Marcus Jones (Enterprise, Troy) with five seconds left in a 10-3 victory over the New York Jets on Nov. 20.

No. 12: A 57-yard touchdown run with a fumble recovery by Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill (West Alabama) in a 23-17 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers on Dec. 11.

No. 14: A 48-yard touchdown pass by New England Patriots Mac Jones (Alabama) to wide receiver Jakobi Meyers with 6:02 left in a 22-18 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Dec. 24. The pass bounced off the hands of tight end Scotty Washington into the hands of Meyers for a touchdown.

No. 15: A one-handed catch by Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens (Hoover) for a 36-yard gain in a 29-17 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 22.

No. 16: A one-handed catch by Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney (Gadsden City) for a 39-gain during a 29-22 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Oct. 9.

No. 17: An 86-yard return of a blocked field-goal attempt for a touchdown by Seattle Seahawks cornerback Mike Jackson (Spain Park) during a 27-7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sept. 18.

No. 23: A 45-yard touchdown pass from Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts (Alabama) to wide receiver A.J. Brown during a 38-35 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII on Feb. 12.

No. 39: A 44-yard pass from Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts (Alabama) to wide receiver DeVonta Smith (Alabama) during a 24-8 victory over the Washington Commanders on Sept. 25.

No. 42: A 84-yard touchdown pass from Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama) to wide receiver Jaylen Waddle (Alabama) in a 26-20 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Dec. 25.

No. 46: A 69-yard interception return for a touchdown by New England Patriots cornerback Marcus Jones (Enterprise, Troy) in a 22-18 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Dec. 24.

No. 48: A 37-yard fumble return by Jacksonville Jaguars outside linebacker Josh Allen (Abbeville) with 2:51 to play in a 20-16 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Jan. 7 that decided which of the teams went to the playoffs.

No. 50: A 29-yard touchdown pass by Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts (Alabama) to wide receiver A.J. Brown during a 35-13 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Oct. 30.

No. 57: A 26-yard touchdown run by Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts (Alabama) in a 24-7 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Sept. 19.

No. 63: A screen pass that Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry (Alabama) turned into a 69-yard gain before Cincinnati cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt (Park Crossing) caused him to fumble at the Bengals 6-yard line. The Titans recovered the football in the end zone of their 20-16 loss on Nov. 27.

No. 67: A 60-yard touchdown pass from Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama) to wide receiver Tyreek Hill (West Alabama) to tie the score with 5:19 left in a 42-38 victory over the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 18.

No. 69: A 45-yard pass from Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jarrett Stidham (Auburn) to wide receiver Davante Adams to set up the game-tying touchdown late in the fourth quarter in a 37-34 overtime loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Jan. 1.

No. 74: A 48-yard touchdown pass from Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama) to wide receiver Tyreek Hill (West Alabama) with 7:47 remaining in a 42-38 victory over the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 18.

No. 89: A 56-yard reception by Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney (Gadsden City) during a 20-12 victory over the New York Giants on Oct. 2.

No. 92: A 75-yard touchdown pass by Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama) to wide receiver Trent Sherfield on the first snap of a 33-17 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Dec. 4.

No. 94: A 31-yard interception return for a touchdown by Pittsburgh Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (Alabama) in a 23-20 victory against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 11.

No. 98: An interception by Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Jamel Dean (Auburn) against New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston (Hueytown) in the end zone in the fourth quarter of a 20-10 victory on Sept. 18.
