A drug raid on a camper in east Alabama led to one of the largest drug seizures in Etowah County, according to the sheriff.

On March 9, said Sheriff Jonathon Horton, the Etowah County Drug Enforcement Team carried out a search warrant on a camper in the west side of the county, just outside of Attalla.

Investigators found more than 22 pounds of methamphetamine, as well as Hydrocodone pills, Oxycodone pills Diazepam pills, marijuana and heroin. They also confiscated $20,645 in cash and one handgun.

Lindsey Michelle Hampton, 39, of Hokes Bluff, is charged with two counts of drug trafficking-methamphetamine, one count of trafficking opium-Hydrocodone, one count of trafficking opium-Oxycodone and one count of unlawful possession of marijuana.

Horton said Hampton was staying in the camper. The raid followed a lengthy investigation after agents had been receiving information that Hampton was trafficking large quantities of meth from a Hokes Bluff residence.

The Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit, Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, Gadsden Police Department, the FBI North Alabama Criminal Enterprise Task Force, and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force investigated the case.

Hampton is being held in the Etowah County Detention Center on bonds totaling more than $2 million.
